Notary Requirements
As notaries, we are required to keep accurate records and to identify all of our clients. Please do not be surprised when we ask you for proof of identity and proof of address.
Identification
The law requires Notaries to obtain full proof of the identity of all individuals (including company directors and other authorised officers), before we can undertake any work on your behalf.
Proof of identity
- Proof of identity includes originals of:
- A current passport
- Photo-card driving licence
- Provisional driving licence
- Birth certificate
- National Identity Card (EEA citizens)
Proof of address
Proof of address includes originals of recent water, electricity, telephone account (not more than three months old and not printed off the internet). Other proof of address includes original bank statements, a letter from your bank no older than three months, a tenancy agreement or Government tax demand or statement
- Please note that ONLY THE ORIGINAL proof of ID and address is acceptable.
If you are not resident in Gibraltar please let us know in advance so that we can advise on appropriate identification documents to be produced.
Corporate clients
With regard to corporate clients, the personal identity of corporate officers and their authority must be verified together with the existence of the corporate entity they represent to include the Articles of Association of the company and the relevant board resolutions with suitable certification. Depending on the nature of the work, additional documentation may be required such as a current Power of Attorney.
